Link: Amid the Chaos of War, Gifts of Music (Washington Post)
Lunchtime news reading brought me to a Washington Post article about Steve Baker, owner of a music store in rural Minnesota, who has taken it upon himself to supply our soldiers in Iraq with guitars and other musical instruments through a program he’s named Operation Happy Note.
Despite my vehement opposition from Day 1 of the Iraq War, I think this is an awesome idea and I’m glad someone has taken up the charge. I know how much I appreciate being able to plug in and hit a few chords after a hectic day of work and can’t imagine how it must feel for someone in a war zone.
If anyone feels so inclined, you can donate to the cause at Operation Happy Note’s Contact page. The article mentions that Fender has donated several electric guitars - as has the Charlie Daniels Band - but it’d be really cool if they dumped a ton of Squier guitars and Frontman amps on this guy to send overseas.
Hell, they could even drop-ship them from the factories in China that are kicking them out, save a couple steps and get more frets for the dollar.
